Super Mario Kart by Isaac-Volpe Super Mario Kart by Isaac-Volpe
First in a series of video game posters.

A week full of snow days allowed me to focus on a project I had in mind for some time so I'm finally glad to be able to share these.

The goal is to represent a video game with one basic element that would be immediately recognizable, the ? Panel from 1992's Super Mario Kart is arguable a very iconic symbol for the game.

I like this. I think the regular height stripes confuse the perspective though.

I placed the stripes in as the game has them on the sections of the track with the ? panels, when looking at them in the game they are a bit distorted so I had them placed a little off here too, but you're right for the poster it would be best to balance the heights more.

I might not be the best judge on the matter since I'm recalling from (no doubt distorted) memory alone: I've not played Super Mario Kart in years (when I track down a cartridge I'll do the legal emulation thing. Or the track down a SNES too thing).

As you've pointed out accuracy is on your side, the uniform stripes are more faithful to Mario Kart. I just think that the original's geometry combined precision and crispness of monitors and printers today schews the perspective.

Simple, elegant, and effective. Your slick, minimalist style definitely makes great use of nostalgia and instant recognition. This would make a great ad if Nintendo decided to re-release the game. ? Panels FTW!

A re-release for this game would be amazing yes, there might be a version of the game available for the Wii's virtual console but I'm not familiar with the platform.
I'm glad you liked the poster though and hope it helped bring back some good memories, =)
